physalis 10 VI-1VII2017
solo exhibition by Alexey Shportun "physalis" was originally shown at 76m2, Pontypool and is currently being shown in the foyer gallery of the Market Hall Cinema, Brynmawr between the 7th of August and the 7th of September. Mae “physalis” yn arddangosfa solo gan Alexey Shportun, ffotograffydd a gwneuthurydd camera o'r Wcráin (sydd wedi cyhoeddi gwaith dan enw Alexey Ostrovskiy). Mae Alexey yn ddylunydd graffeg sy'n byw ac yn gweithio yn Kiev ac Irpin.
Mae'r arddangosfa yn cyflwyno casgliad o fywydau llonydd Alexey, a dynnwyd ar gamera 18 wrth 13cm a adeiladodd ac yn defnyddio papur ffotograffig yn lle ffilm; mae rhai o'r delweddau yn dafluniadau a greodd gyda'i gamera a wnaeth ei hunan a'u rhoi ar gamera digidol. Mae Alexey hefyd yn defnyddio lensys camera 35mm, gwydr chwyddo ac Ortagoz (hen lens Rwsiaidd) yn ei waith. Mae Alexey yn trin ffotograffiaeth fel math o ddefod a myfyrdod, a'r profiad o drefnu'r ffotograff, y golau a'r broses o weithio gyda phapur y mae'n ei fwynhau fwyaf. Caiff y bywydau llonydd y mae'n eu tynnu eu creu ar y cyd â'i wraig Katarina. Fe wnaethom roi'r teitl "physalis" i'r arddangosfa ar ôl un o'i bynciau - planhigyn bychan siâp calon. Gallwch weld gwaith Alexey ar ei dudalen. *** “physalis” yw'r bedwaredd mewn cyfres o 9 arddangosfa a drefnwyd yn 76m2 gan brosiect *kickplate*, gyda chefnogaeth gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru, Datblygu Celfyddydau Cyngor Torfaen a Chyngor Cymuned Pont-y-pŵl. 10 Mehefin – 1 Gorffennaf Dydd Mawrth - Dydd Sadwrn, 11:00 – 18:00 76m2 2 Adeiladau Portland Stryd Fasnachol Pont-y-pŵl, Torfaen NP4 6JS ![]()

“physalis” is a solo exhibition by Ukrainian photographer and camera maker, Alexey Shportun (who also published work under the name Alexey Ostrovskiy). Alexey is a photographer and graphic designer who lives and works in Irpin and Kiev. The exhibition presents a collection of Alexey’s still lifes, taken on an 18 by 13 cm camera that he built and using photographic paper instead of film; some of the images are projections created with his homemade camera and captured on a digital camera. Alexey also uses modified 35mm camera lenses, a magnifying glass and an Ortagoz (an old Russian lens) in his work. Alexey treats photography as a kind of ritual and contemplation, and it is the experience of setting the photo, the light and the process of working with paper that he enjoys the most. The still lifes he photographs are created in collaboration with his wife Katerina, who is a freelance artist. We named the exhibition “physalis” after one of his subjects – a delicate heart-shaped plant. You can find Alexey’s work on his page. *** “physalis” is the fourth in a series of 9 exhibitions organised in 76m2 by the*kickplate*project, with the support from the Arts Council of Wales, Torfaen Council’s Arts Development and Pontypool Community Council. 10th June – 1st July Tuesday – Saturday, 11:00 – 18:00 76m2 2 Portland Buildings Commercial Street Pontypool, Torfaen NP4 6JS ![]()
